BJP’s Development Agenda Reshaping J&K’s Political Landscape, Party Must Seize Emerging Opportunities: Satish Poonia

Jammu, October 14, 2026: BJP National General Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Prabhari and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Satish Poonia on Wednesday called upon party leaders to strengthen grassroots outreach and capitalise on the evolving political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the BJP’s focus on national integration, development and public service continues to shape the region’s future. Addressing a meeting of BJP office-bearers and senior leaders at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, Poonia said Jammu and Kashmir holds a special place in the national consciousness and stressed the need for a stronger organisational presence and sustained public engagement. The meeting was also addressed by BJP J&K President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma (CA), Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly Sunil Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Er. Ghulam Ali Khatana, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh and former J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina. State office-bearers, district in-charges, district presidents, spokespersons, Morcha presidents and other senior party leaders attended the meeting. Recalling the sacrifice of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee for the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India, Poonia highlighted the contributions of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in expanding road connectivity and infrastructure to remote areas. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had carried forward this development agenda on a larger scale, reinforcing the BJP's commitment to infrastructure expansion, public welfare and national integration. Describing the BJP as a party guided by a distinct ideological commitment, Poonia said its organisational strength lies in connecting with people through service, trust and inclusive development. He also recalled his association with Jammu and Kashmir through his participation in the Doda Bachao Andolan and movements linked to Lal Chowk in Srinagar. In his presidential address, Sat Sharma welcomed Poonia as the party's new J&K Prabhari and recalled his earlier association with the region through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Sharma also reviewed the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25-year journey in public service, beginning with his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and continuing as Prime Minister. Highlighting initiatives such as Aashirvaad Ka Diya, Seva Ke Rang, Seva Setu Abhiyan, Mere Sapno Ka Bharat and Seva Jyoti Yatra, Sharma said the campaign had reached a large number of party booths across Jammu and Kashmir. He said the BJP was working to communicate the development achievements of the Modi government to the public while countering what he described as misleading propaganda by the INDI alliance. He urged party leaders to strengthen their ideological clarity and effectively convey the BJP's vision to the people. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh described Jammu and Kashmir as a politically sensitive and strategically important region, where organisational responsibilities require experienced leadership and careful planning. Observing that the socio-political atmosphere, particularly in Kashmir, had undergone a significant transformation, Singh urged party workers to recognise the emerging opportunities and prepare themselves to respond effectively. He emphasised that the party must be ready to engage with people amid the changing political environment. Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma highlighted the BJP's expanding organisational presence and growing public participation, citing the turnout at the party's September 2, 2026, protest in Kashmir as an indication of changing political sentiment. He also claimed that people were increasingly rejecting the politics of the National Conference and Congress. Former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh expressed confidence that Poonia's organisational experience would further strengthen the party's presence in Jammu and Kashmir. Rajya Sabha MP Er. Ghulam Ali Khatana said political developments in Jammu and Kashmir attracted considerable national attention and called upon party workers to consolidate public trust through development-oriented politics. Former J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina recalled Poonia's earlier organisational contributions and his role in handling important party responsibilities. BJP J&K General Secretary Gopal Mahajan conducted the proceedings, while General Secretary Sanjita Dogra delivered the vote of thanks. ANB
