Budgam Police Issues Advisory on Responsible Use of Social Media

Srinagar, Mar 6 (ANB): In view of the prevailing situation, Budgam Police on Friday issued an advisory urging media organisations, social media users and the general public to exercise responsibility while reporting, publishing or sharing information on electronic and social media platforms.
According to a statement issued to news agency ANB, the Budgam Police Media Cell advised people to refrain from publishing or circulating unverified information, speculation or rumours. It stressed that all reports should be verified through credible sources before being disseminated.
The police cautioned that the spread of rumours, misinformation or unverified content could create unnecessary panic, disturb public order and negatively impact peace and tranquillity in the district.
Authorities further stated that activities on social media and other media platforms are being closely monitored and strict legal action will be taken against individuals or groups found involved in spreading rumours or misinformation under relevant provisions of law.
Budgam Police also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the authorities and play a responsible role in maintaining peace, order and harmony in the district. — (ANB)
