Environment Week Celebrations Conclude at GDC Budhal

By Zahid Shah

Budhal, June 13 – The Government Degree College (GDC) Budhal successfully concluded its weeklong Environment Week celebrations, marked by a series of impactful and engaging activities aimed at fostering environmental awareness, responsibility, and sustainable practices among students and staff. The celebrations, which commenced on World Environment Day (June 5, 2025), concluded on June 13 with enthusiastic participation from across the college community.

The week began with a Campus Cleanliness Drive on World Environment Day, where NSS volunteers and staff actively took part in cleaning the college campus — including classrooms, corridors, lawns, and surrounding areas. The initiative emphasized the values of hygiene, shared responsibility, and environmental consciousness.

Subsequent days saw a focused Pruning Drive, during which overgrown branches were trimmed, shrubs were shaped, and unwanted vegetation was cleared to enhance the aesthetic and ecological health of the green campus areas. Routine maintenance, such as grass cutting and removal of invasive plants, was carried out to ensure the upkeep of the college’s open spaces.

To further deepen environmental engagement, students participated in various awareness activities, including discussions on pressing environmental challenges and solutions.

The celebrations culminated on June 13 with another round of the cleanliness drive and a powerful Extension Lecture on “Environmental Ethics.” Delivered by Dr. Altaf Hussain, Head of the Department of Chemistry, the lecture explored the ethical imperatives of environmental stewardship, the adverse impact of human actions on the planet, and the urgent need to embrace sustainable and eco-conscious living. Prof. Tahir Nadeem, NSS Programme Officer, also shared valuable insights, contributing to a broader understanding of environmental ethics.

Principal Prof. Manzoor Ahmed Dar commended the NSS Unit and faculty for their active involvement and encouraged the continuation of such initiatives beyond Environment Week. He emphasized the importance of integrating environmentally responsible habits into everyday life.
