December 05: IGP Kashmir V. K. Birdi, IPS, chaired a review meeting on the ongoing monitoring of under-trial cases with district SSsP, Law Officers and Pairvi Officers of the Kashmir Zone at PCR Kashmir today. The meeting was attended by all range DIsG, district SSsP, Law Officers, Public Prosecutors and Pairvi Officers.
IGP Kashmir opened the session by outlining the agenda. District SSsP delivered brief presentations on their progress in case disposal and follow-up, with particular focus on securing convictions in under-trial and under-investigation cases. Discussions covered general crime matters, especially those related to NDPS and UAPA offenses, absconders and other pending cases. The status of preventive actions and inquest proceedings was also reviewed.
The IGP appreciated the efforts of district heads and Law Officers in crime prevention and emphasized the need to further strengthen the quality of investigations. He highlighted the importance of improving conviction rates through better investigative practices, enhanced use of scientific tools and stronger follow-up mechanisms, particularly for narcotics and terror-related cases.
He also reviewed the overall security situation in the Kashmir Zone. He stressed the role of non-kinetic measures, including fortifying the security grid, establishing dynamic nakas and maintaining regular surveillance of ANEs.
In conclusion, the IGP reaffirmed the J&K Police’s commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region. He urged officers to uphold transparency and accountability and to ensure timely disposal of cases to secure convictions and safeguard the rights and safety of citizens.
