Srinagar, Dec 29, ANB: Amir Hussain Lone, an armless cricketer from Kashmir, gained worldwide recognition a few years ago when cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar personally met him to encourage his incredible spirit.
Now, with support from the Adani Foundation, Amir, who is also the Brand Ambassador for Aryans Group of Colleges, is set to realize his dream of establishing an Indoor Cricket Academy in his native district of Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir.
According to the Associated News Bureau, at a press conference, Dr. Anshu Kataria, Founder of Aryans Group of Colleges, stated, “We have been associated with Amir for the past two years and have witnessed his passion and dedication towards fulfilling his dream. With this academy, talented children from Kashmir will have the opportunity to shine at the national level in cricket.”
Rupesh K Singh Head, Corporate Affairs, Punjab & Haryana said that The Adani Foundation has contributed ₹67.6 lakh towards the establishment of this academy.
Despite having no arms, Amir has captured hearts worldwide with his skills and determination. Expressing gratitude to the Adani Group, Amir shared that the academy will be built on two kanals of land in his village, Bijbehara, Anantnag. Once completed, it will provide free coaching to around 100 children.
Amir stated, “The academy will be ready by March next year. Heavy snowfall in the region poses challenges, especially for players, and that’s why we decided to create an indoor facility. The academy will feature two turf pitches inside the building, and players will also have the option to practice outdoors when the weather permits. This setup will ensure uninterrupted training regardless of the season.”
Amir’s story is one of unparalleled determination. Recalling his journey since 2013, he said, “I always dreamed of playing cricket at the top level, but an accident at the age of eight left me without both arms. However, I never gave up. I represented Jammu & Kashmir in the Divyang (disabled) category. My wife even sold her jewelry to support my passion for cricket.”
A few years ago, Amir’s videos showcasing him bowling with his feet and batting by holding the bat with his neck went viral on social media, earning him praise from cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and other prominent personalities from various fields.
With his dream finally coming true, Amir’s academy is set to become a hub of talent, inspiring young cricketers not just in his village but across the surrounding districts of Kashmir. (ANB)
