Srinagar, Oct 20 (ANB): Senior National Conference (NC) leader Aga Ruhullah Mehdi has expressed confidence that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will pass a resolution for the restoration of Article 370 during its first session.
Ruhulla, who also represents Srinagar as a Lok Sabha MP, shared his belief that his party remains fully committed to reinstating the special status of the region.
According to Associated News Bureau (ANB), speaking at a recent event, Mehdi highlighted that pre-election and post-election discussions with party leaders have reaffirmed the National Conference's determination to restore Article 370.
"I have full faith that the Assembly will pass a resolution on this important issue," he said, emphasizing that the party's stance on the matter is unwavering.
Ruhulla’s remarks come as the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir continues to evolve after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
The NC has repeatedly pledged to work toward reinstating the special status, a sentiment echoed by Mehdi during his address.
Article 370, which granted special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated by the Government of India, sparking political debates and protests across the region. Since then, several political parties, particularly the NC, have voiced their demand for its restoration, citing it as essential for preserving Jammu and Kashmir’s identity.
As the region prepares for Assembly elections, Mehdi’s statement suggests that the restoration of Article 370 will remain a central issue in the political discourse and the National Conference's agenda. (ANB)
