J&K Bank Supports Green Mobility Initiative at IIM Jammu
JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 30: Jammu and Kashmir Bank has supported a green mobility initiative at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, with the launch of 71 bicycles and dedicated cycle stands at the institute’s Jagti campus.
J&K Bank MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee flagged off the bicycles in the presence of IIM Jammu Director Prof. B.S. Sahay and the bank’s General Manager and Divisional Head, Jammu, Ashok Gupta.
Also present on the occasion were Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Gupta, Dean Academics Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Chairperson of the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Skill Development Dr. Muqbil Burhan, Chairperson Student Affairs Prof. (Dr.) Brigadier Neeraj Soni, and Chairperson Anandam Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal, besides faculty members, officers, staff and students.
Speaking on the occasion, Chatterjee said educational institutions play an important role in shaping the habits, values and choices of future generations.
He said initiatives that integrate sustainability into everyday campus life can help students carry environmentally responsible practices into the organisations and communities they lead in the future.
“This initiative is, therefore, an investment not merely in mobility infrastructure, but in healthier living, environmental awareness and responsible leadership,” he said.
Chatterjee said the bank’s CSR initiatives were focused on interventions capable of creating a lasting impact.
“Our partnership with IIM Jammu brings together two institutions committed to shaping a better future — one through education and leadership development, and the other through responsible financial and social engagement,” he said.
He added that the bank was pleased to support an initiative aimed at placing young people at the centre of climate-conscious change.
Earlier, Prof. B.S. Sahay welcomed and felicitated Chatterjee and other representatives of J&K Bank. He acknowledged the bank’s CSR support and appreciated its contribution towards strengthening sustainable mobility infrastructure at the institute.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging students to use clean, healthy and non-motorised modes of transport for movement within the campus. The dedicated cycle stands are expected to provide organised parking facilities and facilitate the upkeep and sustained use of the bicycles.
The initiative is also intended to reduce dependence on motorised vehicles for short-distance travel, promote physical activity, ease intra-campus traffic and contribute towards reducing the institute’s carbon footprint.
J&K Bank and IIM Jammu have previously collaborated on initiatives aimed at improving campus mobility. The bank had earlier provided five e-carts for use within the institute’s campus. ANB
