Jammu, Apr 5 (ANB): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday arrested a Junior Engineer of the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 in the Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu.
The arrest followed a complaint alleging that the official had sought a total bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh from a complainant in connection with official work. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught the engineer red-handed while accepting part payment of Rs. 75,000.
Officials said the operation was carried out in Gandhi Nagar, where the accused was apprehended on the spot during the transaction. The bribe amount was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, corroborating the allegations.
The accused, posted in the Katra area under JPDCL, has been taken into custody for further investigation. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, and further inquiries are underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged demand and any possible involvement of others.
The action is part of ACB’s ongoing drive to curb corruption in public offices, particularly in departments providing essential services. ANB
