KCFL Nears Knockout Stage as Ganderbal United, Baramulla Strikers Share Honours
Srinagar, June 28: The Kashmir Champions Football League (KCFL), organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, moved closer to the conclusion of its league stage on Sunday, with an exciting day of football attracting another large evening crowd.
In the opening fixture, Ganderbal United and Baramulla Strikers played out a closely contested 1-1 draw. Kamran Hamid gave Baramulla Strikers the lead, while Sahil Ajaz equalised for Ganderbal United to ensure both teams shared the points after an entertaining contest.
The day's second fixture featured Kulgam Avengers against Anantnag, as the competition continued to build momentum ahead of the knockout phase.
The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming response received throughout the group stage, noting that enthusiastic spectators have been turning out in large numbers every evening to support their favourite teams. The growing attendance reflects the increasing popularity of the league and the renewed passion for football across the region.
With the league stage entering its final phase, the tournament is set to progress to the knockout rounds, where teams will compete for a place in the latter stages of the competition.
The league action will resume on Monday with the final group-stage encounter between Srinagar United and Bandipora Blasters. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 pm.
The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council reiterated its commitment to promoting football and providing a competitive platform for emerging talent through the successful conduct of the Kashmir Champions Football League. ANB
