LG Manoj Sinha Orders Comprehensive Safety Audit for Migrant Workers, Calls for Intensified Anti-Terror Operations

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday chaired a high-level security review meeting and directed the civil administration and police to undertake a comprehensive review of the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for the safety and security of labourers from outside Jammu and Kashmir, while calling for intensified anti-terror operations across the Union Territory. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary, Home Department Chandraker Bharti, Special Director General of Police (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani, Additional Director General of Police (CID) Nitish Kumar, Commissioner/Secretary, General Administration Department M. Raju, Inspector Generals of Police, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police and other senior officials. Reviewing the prevailing security scenario, the Lieutenant Governor directed all Deputy Commissioners and SSPs to conduct a detailed assessment of the existing SoPs designed to safeguard labourers from other states and Union Territories working in Jammu and Kashmir. He further instructed that employers must ensure all workers from outside the Union Territory are covered under insurance schemes and that their details are duly registered with the local police and district administration to strengthen security and emergency response mechanisms. Calling for a more robust counter-terror strategy, the Lieutenant Governor said security agencies must intensify precise and high-impact anti-terror operations to neutralise terrorists and further strengthen the security grid across the Union Territory. The Lieutenant Governor also directed the authorities to ensure dignified last rites for the victims of the recent Kulgam terror attack and extend all necessary assistance and support to the bereaved families. The meeting also reviewed the security arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra, with discussions focusing on further strengthening the multi-layered security grid to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
