LG Manoj Sinha Unveils Bust of Maharaja Ranbir Singh at Central Sanskrit University, Jammu, Jammu Campus Renamed as ‘Maharaja Ranbir Singh Campus

Jammu, March 16 (ANB): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday unveiled the bust of Maharaja Ranbir Singh at the Central Sanskrit University’s Jammu Campus at Kot Bhalwal. On the occasion, the university’s Jammu campus was officially renamed as the “Maharaja Ranbir Singh Campus.”
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said that the nation owes Maharaja Ranbir Singh a profound debt for his visionary reforms, promotion of culture and his role in building a strong and progressive Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that Maharaja Ranbir Singh did not merely rule the region but provided it with a new vision, strengthening institutions and enriching society with knowledge and cultural vitality.
The Lieutenant Governor said that Maharaja Ranbir Singh viewed Jammu and Kashmir as a living entity rather than merely a geographical territory. According to him, the true spirit of the region lay not only in its mountains and rivers but also in its intellectual and spiritual traditions.
Highlighting the significance of the renaming ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor said that naming the university campus after Maharaja Ranbir Singh reflects the enduring relevance of the values and consciousness he inspired more than 150 years ago.
He emphasised the crucial role of youth in shaping the future of the region and urged them to follow principles of integrity while contributing to the development of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. He said the younger generation must embrace the humane and progressive ideals associated with Maharaja Ranbir Singh and actively participate in nation-building.
The Lieutenant Governor also stressed the need to build a society that is technologically advanced yet guided by strong human values. He said India remains committed to global peace and shared prosperity and that the country must prepare its youth to lead with wisdom and responsibility in an increasingly challenging world.
Referring to India’s ancient traditions, he observed that the country’s civilisational journey has always balanced science and culture. He said institutions like this campus should nurture individuals who combine intellectual brilliance with moral and spiritual wisdom.
During the event, the Lieutenant Governor also assured financial support for the establishment of Gurukul, Sanskrit Pathshala or Ved Pathshala in the region.
Among those present on the occasion were former Union Minister Dr Karan Singh, Padma Shri Prof Vishwamurti Shastri, Vice Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University Prof Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Dr Kamal Kishor Mishra, Registrar Prof R.G. Murali Krishna, Director Prof Satish Kumar Kapoor, besides faculty members, senior officials, prominent citizens and a large number of students. ANB
