LG Sinha Calls for Responsible AI, Urges IIT (BHU) Alumni to Contribute to India’s Global Rise

Chicago, September 7, 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday addressed the IIT (BHU) Global Alumni Meet in Chicago, Illinois, highlighting the enduring legacy of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and calling for responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to advance human welfare and economic growth. Paying tribute to Malaviya, Sinha underlined his visionary contribution to engineering education and the industrial development of India. He said Malaviya’s ideals and vision continue to inspire successive generations to harness technology, strengthen the economy and serve society. Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said AI has the potential to become a major driver of economic growth by combining human capabilities with machine intelligence. At the same time, he stressed the need for a strong framework of responsible AI based on ethics, core human values and effective human oversight. “AI must remain anchored in ethics, core values and strict human oversight. Technology must be proactively guided by humanity to ensure that it serves the collective well-being of all people,” Sinha said. He also highlighted what he described as the emergence of a new India—stronger domestically, more confident globally and increasingly prepared to contribute to shaping the future of humanity. “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is building its own place in the world and preparing to lead it. This is India’s moment. This is India’s century. I can confidently say that this is the rise of a civilisational power, which is confident, compassionate, innovative and unstoppable,” he said. Sinha said India is advancing rapidly towards technological leadership while simultaneously pursuing large-scale social welfare initiatives, creating conditions for what he termed a major national resurgence. Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor said the region’s transformation would form an important part of India’s broader development story. He attributed the changes in the Union Territory to the abrogation of Article 370 and subsequent development initiatives. “On the development front, the last six years have been nothing short of historic. This is not just progress but a renaissance. Jammu Kashmir has moved from shadows of fear to the light of opportunity, from isolation to integration, and from despair to destiny,” Sinha said. He said the transformation had opened new avenues for development, investment and economic opportunities in the region. Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s historic address in Chicago on September 11, 1893, Sinha acknowledged the contribution of the IIT (BHU) global alumni community and the Indian diaspora towards social and economic development across the world. He called upon IIT (BHU) alumni to play a more active role in India’s continuing economic and civilisational development. The Lieutenant Governor outlined a four-point roadmap for greater engagement by the alumni community. He urged them to support next-generation institutions through mentorship and investment, establish strategic partnerships between American and Indian institutions, present an informed account of India’s transformation globally, and reconnect with their roots by bringing back their expertise, experience and knowledge. Members of the IIT (BHU) Global Alumni Association and prominent citizens from various fields attended the event.
