MP Rajya Sabha G A Khatana Highlights Importance of Preserving Tribal Heritage During Bandipora Museum Visit
Srinagar, June 6: Member of parliament (Rajya Sabha ) Ghulam Ali Khatana on Saturday visited the Kashmir Tribal Art Society and the Museum Collection of Tribal Heritage at Halwadi in Aragam area of Bandipora district, where he emphasized the importance of preserving tribal culture and heritage for future generations.
During his visit, Khatana toured the museum and reviewed its extensive collection of traditional tribal artifacts, describing the experience as a journey through the rich cultural history of Kashmir’s tribal communities.
The Rajya Sabha member observed that the collection includes a wide range of historically significant items, including traditional Manja, ancient wooden utensils known as Peera, silver jewellery, intricately embroidered Kashida dresses, and traditional waistcoats and mufflers. He said each artifact reflects the resilience, craftsmanship, and cultural identity of the region’s tribal population.
Khatana stated that preserving tribal heritage is essential not only for safeguarding the past but also for strengthening society’s connection with its roots and inspiring younger generations to value their cultural legacy.
He commended the team behind the initiative for their efforts in conserving and showcasing valuable cultural assets, describing the museum as an important repository of Kashmir’s tribal heritage.
The MP also encouraged people to visit the museum and learn about the traditions, history, and artistic achievements of the tribal communities of Jammu and Kashmir ANB
