P. K. Mishra Stresses Data-Driven Governance, Calls for Centre-State Coordination on Statistical Systems
New Delhi: Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister P. K. Mishra has underscored the importance of robust data collection and analysis in shaping evidence-based policymaking, particularly in the rapidly evolving era of artificial intelligence (AI).
Addressing a conclave organised by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation in New Delhi, Mishra highlighted the growing role of reliable data in governance and national development, describing it as a fundamental pillar of India's development journey.
He emphasised the need to strengthen coordination between the Centre and state governments to improve the quality, consistency and comparability of statistical information across the country.
Mishra called for harmonising data collection practices, adopting common definitions and implementing standard classifications to ensure greater uniformity in statistical systems.
He stressed that accurate and reliable data would be crucial for informed decision-making, effective policy formulation and improved governance outcomes, especially as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence increasingly influence public administration and development planning.
The conclave highlighted the significance of strengthening India's statistical framework through coordinated efforts, standardised methodologies and a greater focus on data-driven governance. ANB
