New Delhi, 05 December 2025:
Rajya Sabha MP and President of J&K BJP Sat Sharma (CA) raised a critical public welfare issue in the Upper House, drawing national attention to the severely deteriorated condition of the Poonch–Budha Amarnath Shrine Road in Jammu & Kashmir. Sharma’s intervention highlighted the urgent need for immediate government action to safeguard thousands of pilgrims and local residents who depend on this vital road link.
Raising the issue in the special mention, Sat Sharma underscored that the Poonch–Budha Amarnath Road serves as a lifeline for the region—connecting district headquarters with the revered Budha Amarnath Shrine and providing daily access for schoolchildren, patients, and residents from numerous villages. He emphasized that the current dilapidated condition of the road is not merely an inconvenience but a grave public safety hazard, already responsible for repeated accidents and dangerously delayed emergency responses.
Sharma informed the House that the road is riddled with deep potholes, remains waterlogged in multiple stretches, and has seen persistent neglect despite earlier allocations for repair and strengthening. He expressed concern that substandard workmanship, inadequate oversight, and delayed execution have eroded public trust and damaged the region’s potential for religious tourism, which is a major contributor to the local economy.
Calling the situation “deeply distressing and unacceptable,” Sat Sharma urged the Union Government to direct concerned ministries and implementing agencies to undertake immediate restoration work along with a comprehensive long-term plan to ensure an all-weather, durable road. He further pressed for strict accountability mechanisms to be enforced on contractors and officials responsible for lapses in quality and delay.
Sharma stated that the people of Poonch are simply seeking safe, functional infrastructure that respects both their day-to-day needs and their religious sentiments. He stressed that ensuring reliable road connectivity to Budha Amarnath is central not only to public welfare but also to strengthening faith-based tourism and regional development.
Sat Sharma’s strong and timely intervention reflects his continued commitment to addressing the concerns of the people of Jammu & Kashmir and ensuring that issues of public importance receive urgent governmental attention.
