Srinagar, June 14, 2025:
Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, today conducted a comprehensive review of the Ministry's media units functioning in Jammu & Kashmir during his visit to Srinagar. The review included key institutions such as Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Akashvani Srinagar, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Government of J&K.

During his visit, Shri Jaju inspected the premises of Doordarshan and Akashvani Srinagar, interacting with officials and staff to assess operations on the ground. He commended the contribution of these public service broadcasters in delivering credible information and building public awareness in the Union Territory.

Emphasizing the need for more localised and culturally rooted programming, Shri Jaju urged media units to produce region-specific content in local languages to strengthen public engagement and reflect the diverse voices of Jammu & Kashmir.

“Public broadcasting in a region like J&K must not only inform but also inspire,” he remarked. “By promoting local languages, expanding news content, and leveraging our platforms, we aim to create a stronger and more inclusive media ecosystem.”

During the review of DDK Srinagar, the Secretary called for the expansion of news bulletins to provide comprehensive and timely information. He also expressed interest in new initiatives to produce serials and films for the DD Kashir channel, aimed at highlighting local stories and nurturing regional talent.

Highlighting the importance of digital transformation, Shri Jaju advocated for wider promotion of the WAVES integrated OTT platform, which curates content from Doordarshan and All India Radio. He encouraged efforts to boost user engagement, particularly among youth audiences.

He also underlined the strategic relevance of DD Free Dish in sensitive and remote regions like J&K, noting its critical role in delivering free, factual content to the masses. He called for targeted efforts to extend its coverage and viewership.

To further strengthen public communication, Shri Jaju emphasized the need for enhanced coordination between the DIPR and I&B Ministry’s media units. This collaboration, he said, would enable the effective dissemination of government schemes, citizen welfare initiatives, and development stories with greater uniformity and reach.

The review meeting was attended by Secretary Information, J&K Government, Shri Muneer-ul-Islam; Director PIB Srinagar and RNU DD News, Shri Qazi Salman; Director Information, J&K, Shri Nitish Rajora; along with senior officials from CBC, Doordarshan, and Akashvani's programme and engineering wings.
