SIA Kashmir Files Charge Sheet Against Two Accused for Online Terror Propaganda

Srinagar, Feb 17: The State Investigation Agency Kashmir on Tuesday filed a comprehensive charge sheet before the competent court against two accused persons for their alleged involvement in unlawful and anti-national activities linked to the proscribed terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen.
The accused have been identified as Altaf Hussain Wagay, a resident of Reban Gund Behram in Shopian, and Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Rampora, Qaimoh in Kulgam, who is presently operating from across the border.
According to SIA officials, the case relates to the dissemination and propagation of anti-national, secessionist and pro-terrorist content through various social media platforms with the intent to radicalise youth and disturb public order in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The FIR (No. 01/2025) was registered at Police Station CIK/SIA Kashmir under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act following credible inputs that Pakistan-based proscribed terrorist organisations, including Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, along with their proxies and sympathisers, were engaged in a coordinated conspiracy to spread anti-India and secessionist propaganda through online and offline channels.
Investigations revealed that the objective of the campaign was to challenge India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, incite disaffection and radicalise impressionable youth to further terrorist activities. During the probe, the SIA identified multiple social media accounts operated under pseudonyms by the accused to evade detection by law enforcement agencies.
The agency said the investigation has established the active role of the accused in promoting secessionist ideology, glorifying terrorism and attempting to undermine the lawful administrative framework. Further investigation into the involvement of other suspects and associated conspirators is continuing.
The SIA reiterated its firm commitment to identify, investigate and prosecute individuals engaged in activities prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and security of the nation, particularly those misusing digital platforms to radicalise youth and promote terrorism.
