Budgam Police Launches Crackdown on Banned Literature

Budgam, August 7, 2025:
In line with the latest directive from the Home Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, the District Police Budgam on Thursday initiated a district-wide enforcement drive to seize banned literature promoting secessionist ideologies, anti-national propaganda, and distorted historical narratives.

The coordinated operation, conducted across all police stations and posts in the district, involved surprise inspections at bookstores, roadside stalls, and other establishments dealing in printed materials. The aim was to detect and confiscate any publications that may promote radicalization, glorify terrorism, or vilify security forces.

Officials said the drive is part of a broader preventive strategy to counter the spread of divisive and extremist narratives that threaten peace and national integrity. Special emphasis was placed on identifying publications previously flagged for glorifying terrorist acts or inciting communal and regional tensions.

"The objective is to prevent the circulation of content that misleads the youth, sows discord, and undermines the sovereignty of the nation," a senior police official stated.

The Budgam Police reiterated its firm commitment to maintaining peace and public order in the region. Authorities have urged shopkeepers, publishers, and distributors to exercise caution and ensure that no prohibited literature is stocked or circulated.

Citizens have also been encouraged to remain alert and report any suspicious printed material or activity to the nearest police station.

“This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to protect young minds from the influence of extremist ideologies and to foster a secure and harmonious society,” the statement added.
