Jammu, Feb 6 (ANB): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday defended his government’s balanced and welfare-oriented Budget, asserting that despite severe financial constraints, the administration has taken concrete steps to provide relief to the most vulnerable sections of society and announced that daily wagers will be regularised in a phased manner.
According to news agency ANB, addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said the Budget should not be viewed as a standalone document but as part of an ongoing governance process reflecting sustained policy measures.
“No Budget is an isolated exercise. It represents a series of steps taken by the government over time and their gradual implementation,” he said.
Omar Abdullah stated that since assuming office, his government has adopted a people-centric and welfare-driven approach, laying a strong developmental foundation over the past year. He said the present Budget builds on that framework while keeping long-term fiscal stability in focus.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the government has consciously avoided placing undue pressure on the Union Territory’s finances. He said it would be imprudent for a responsible administration to overburden the treasury or incur excessive debt in an attempt to fulfil all electoral commitments at once.
He added that fiscal prudence remains central to the government’s policy and assured that serious efforts are underway to address the concerns of daily wagers, who will be regularised in a phased manner. ANB
