Jammu, Monday: ANB:In a symbolic gesture marking the revival of Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional ‘Darbar Move’, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday walked from his official residence to the Civil Secretariat as the government began functioning from Jammu after a four-year hiatus.
The biannual practice, which sees the shifting of the Union Territory’s administrative offices between Srinagar and Jammu with the changing seasons, had been suspended amid logistical challenges and the pandemic.
Wearing a light jacket against the early winter chill, Abdullah greeted security personnel and onlookers along the route, underscoring the return to a longstanding administrative tradition that dates back to the 19th century Dogra rule.
With the Civil Secretariat and other key departments now operational in Jammu, the move signals the formal start of the winter working season in the region’s winter capital.
Officials said routine work and public dealings will resume fully from Tuesday, as employees from Srinagar settle into their temporary offices in Jammu. ANB
