Er. Gulam Ali Directs Departments to Expedite Damage Assessments in Flood-Hit Jammu

Jammu, August 13: After the culmination of the Parliament session in New Delhi, Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Rajya Sabha, Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, returned Jammu and chaired a high-level meeting with key officials from various departments to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rains and subsequent floods in the region.

The meeting, held at MP’s official residence at Residency road, was attended by senior officers from the Revenue, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Public Works Department (PWD), Forest, and other relevant departments.

During the meeting, MP Khatana emphasized the need for prompt action and coordination among the departments to address the extensive damage suffered by both public infrastructure and private properties. He expressed concern over the hardship faced by the local population due to the natural calamity and stressed the importance of timely relief measures to mitigate the impact.

“The recent rains and floods have caused significant destruction in several parts of Jammu. It is imperative that we take immediate steps to restore normalcy and ensure that those affected receive the necessary support and assistance,” said Er. Gulam Ali Khatana. He further directed the concerned departments to expedite the assessment of damages and ensure that relief and rehabilitation work is carried out in a transparent and efficient manner.

Officials from the Revenue Department, PWD and PHE departments briefed the MP on the steps being taken to restore damaged roads, water supply lines, and other essential services. The Forest Department was tasked with assessing the damage to green cover and taking measures to prevent further erosion and landslides in vulnerable areas.

In addition to the official meeting, MP Khatana also met with several deputations and individuals from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. These delegations included representatives from flood-affected areas, who voiced their concerns and grievances directly to the MP.

Er. Gulam Ali Khatana assured the deputations that their concerns would be addressed promptly. He reiterated his commitment to working closely with the administration to ensure that all necessary resources are mobilized for relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The MP also urged the local administration to maintain close communication with the affected communities and provide regular updates on the progress of relief measures. He called for a collaborative approach, involving both government agencies and the public, to overcome the challenges posed by the recent floods and to build resilience against future natural disasters.
