February 11: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Shri V.K. Birdi, IPS, chaired a high-level joint security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir in view of the upcoming important events.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from J&K Police, intelligence agencies, the Army, Railways, and Central Armed Police Forces deployed across the Kashmir Zone. During the meeting, IGP Kashmir reviewed the prevailing security scenario and assessed preparedness and coordination measures for the forthcoming events. Emphasis was placed on effective intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination, and sustained public cooperation to maintain peace and order.
District Police Chiefs were directed to intensify market checking drives in coordination with the civil administration to curb hoarding, black marketing, and overpricing of essential commodities. They were also instructed to strengthen community outreach to ensure the smooth conduct of religious and public events.
In view of the expected rise in tourist inflow, enhanced security arrangements were ordered at major tourist destinations. The security of railway stations and tracks was also reviewed, with directions issued for intensified patrolling, surveillance, and preventive measures, including public awareness initiatives to avert mishaps. Security arrangements along the National Highway were similarly reviewed, with instructions to further strengthen them.
IGP Kashmir directed all officers to remain vigilant, reinforce intelligence and response mechanisms, and maintain close coordination to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the forthcoming events across the Kashmir Valley.
