IGP Kashmir Reviews Srinagar Security Grid, Traffic Management Measures

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 21: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Sujit Kumar, IPS, on Monday chaired a security review-cum-traffic management meeting with senior officers and stakeholders at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir. The meeting was attended by the DIG Traffic Jammu, DIG Central Kashmir Range Srinagar, DIG Traffic Kashmir, DIG CRPF North and South Srinagar, DIG CRPF Operations Srinagar, SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, SO to IGP Kashmir, SSP CID SB (K), SSP CID CI (K), SP Cargo Srinagar, all zonal SSPs of Srinagar City and other senior officers. At the outset, officers briefed the IGP Kashmir on the prevailing security situation in their respective jurisdictions and shared suggestions regarding traffic management and security arrangements. The inputs were discussed in detail to identify gaps and strengthen the existing arrangements. The meeting reviewed the security grid of Srinagar city and the deployment of personnel, with particular focus on rationalising naka points wherever required to strengthen security coverage while reducing congestion at major traffic-choking points. The IGP directed the concerned officers to ensure effective security arrangements across intra-zone, inter-zone, inter-district and peripheral areas. He also stressed the need to reinforce checking points at the entry and exit routes of Srinagar city. Sujit Kumar emphasised seamless coordination and real-time information sharing among the Traffic Police, District Police and personnel deployed at naka points to ensure effective monitoring and a prompt response to emerging situations. The IGP further directed the officers to make greater use of technology for traffic regulation, surveillance, coordination and information sharing, with the objective of improving both security management and vehicular movement across the city. The meeting concluded with emphasis on continuous review of the security and traffic arrangements, close coordination among all stakeholders and professional implementation of measures aimed at safeguarding the public while minimising inconvenience to commuters.
