In a Major Breakthrough, Srinagar Police Seize 8 Kg of Heroin

Srinagar, Jan 08, ANB: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, Srinagar Police seized 8 kilograms of heroin during a routine checkpoint operation on Tuesday night. The contraband was confiscated from two individuals who have since been arrested. According to the Associated News Bureau, this successful operation underscores the relentless efforts of the police to combat the growing menace of drug trafficking in the Srinagar district.

DETAILS OF THE OPERATION

According to the Associated News Bureau, SSP Srinagar revealed that a police team from Police Post Qamarwari intercepted a vehicle at Barthana Crossing during a routine checkpoint. The vehicle, a Tata Sumo (registration number JK05D-1837), had two individuals on board.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 6 kilograms of heroin concealed beneath the driver’s seat. Additionally, during a personal search, 2 kilograms of the narcotic substance were recovered from the suspects, with each individual concealing 1 kilogram in polythene bags.

ARRESTED INDIVIDUALS

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

1.Anas Ajaz Awan: Son of Ajaz Ahmad Awan, resident of Dildar Tangdar, Kupwara

2.Zahid Ahmad Sheikh: Son of Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Channipora, Tangdar, Kupwara

The narcotics and the vehicle used in the crime have been seized as evidence. A case has been registered at Police Station Parimpora under FIR No. 03/2025, invoking sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigations are ongoing.

CROSS-BORDER TRAFFICKING NETWORK

Preliminary investigations suggest that the recovered narcotics were smuggled from Pakistan as part of a cross-border drug trafficking network. J&K Police are actively pursuing both backward and forward linkages to dismantle the syndicate and identify all individuals involved in this illicit trade.

POLICE COMMITMENT AND PUBLIC APPEAL

J&K Police remains resolute in its mission to eradicate drug trafficking and ensure community safety. “We reaffirm our zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and pledge to bring all those involved in such criminal activities to justice with the full force of the law,” said SSP Srinagar.

The police have urged the general public to support their efforts in creating a drug-free society. Citizens are encouraged to report any information related to drug trafficking or suspicious activities to their nearest police station or by dialing 112.

This operation serves as a strong warning to those involved in drug trafficking and highlights the unwavering commitment of law enforcement to safeguarding society. With public cooperation and continued vigilance, J&K Police aim to dismantle such networks and protect future generations from the devastating impact of drugs. (ANB)
