INDIA–MALDIVES JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE EKUVERIN CONCLUDES AT THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

The India–Maldives joint military exercise EKUVERIN, conducted between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Forces (MNDF), concluded with a joint validation exercise at Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, marking the culmination of two weeks of intensive training.

The closing phase was observed by Major General RD Sharma of the Indian Army and Brigadier General Abdulla Ibrahim of the MNDF, along with observer delegations from both countries.

The exercise focused on enhancing interoperability, operational synergy and tactical coordination in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations under contemporary operational environments. Training activities included cordon and search operations, room intervention drills, small team tactics, reflex firing and close-quarter battle procedures.

Special emphasis was laid on amphibious operations, intelligence-based missions, real-time decision-making and joint planning under dynamic conditions. The participating contingents also rehearsed explosive handling, demolition techniques and advanced field craft to improve their ability to neutralise threats and secure sensitive areas.

The final validation exercise successfully met all prescribed training objectives. Senior officers from both sides expressed satisfaction with the professionalism, coordination and operational proficiency demonstrated during the exercise.

Exercise EKUVERIN underscored the growing defence cooperation between India and the Maldives and reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, stability and security in the Indian Ocean Region.
