In a major move toward clean energy adoption and in support of the Government of India’s green policies, the Indian Army has officially introduced bio-diesel into its fuel supply chain. The initiative was launched today in New Delhi, where the first consignment was received by Lieutenant General Pushpendra Pal Singh, Vice Chief of the Army Staff. Senior Army officials, including the Quarter Master General, the Director General of Supply and Transport, and Mr. Shubhankar Sen, Director (Marketing) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), were also present at the ceremony. The launch coincided with the 265th Corps Day of the Army Service Corps.
The introduction of bio-diesel marks a significant milestone in the Army’s gradual shift toward environmentally responsible fuels, aimed at cutting carbon emissions and advancing long-term energy sustainability. This development supports the National Biofuel Policy and strengthens the Army’s ongoing efforts to integrate eco-friendly practices into its logistics and operational systems. The Armed Forces recently adopted E-20 petrol on 1 December 2025, further bolstering their green mobility initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chief of the Army Staff praised BPCL for its continued support, stating that the launch reflects a shared commitment to building a greener and more energy-secure future. He stressed that given the Army’s extensive mobility operations, transitioning to sustainable fuel options will play a meaningful role in achieving national clean energy objectives.
With this initiative, the Indian Army continues to exemplify leadership in nation-building and innovation. The move underscores its dedication to environmental responsibility, modernisation, and efficient resource management.
