India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, and the indigenously built frigate INS Udaygiri are representing the Indian Navy at the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2025, hosted by the Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo from 27 to 29 November. The review is being held as part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s 75th anniversary and has drawn naval ships, delegations and observers from multiple countries.
The deployment marks the first overseas mission for both vessels, underscoring India’s focus on bolstering regional maritime cooperation. INS Vikrant’s inaugural appearance at an international fleet review highlights India’s continued engagement with partner navies in the Indian Ocean Region and its efforts to promote maritime stability through collaboration and interoperability.
The participation of INS Udaygiri, commissioned recently, further reflects India’s growing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities and its expanding operational profile in the region.
During their stay in Colombo, both ships will take part in core IFR activities, including the ceremonial fleet review, a city parade, community outreach programmes and professional naval exchanges. As part of public outreach efforts, the vessels will also be open for visitors during IFR 2025. ANB
