J&K Assembly to Begin Fifth Session on February 2 with LG’s Address


Jammu, January 12:The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has released the provisional calendar for the Fifth Session of the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, outlining an extensive legislative and financial agenda scheduled from February to April 2026.
According to the calendar, the session will commence on February 2 with the Lieutenant Governor’s Address to the House. This will be followed by a multi-day discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the LG’s address, along with the government’s reply.
A major focus of the session will be the financial business of the Assembly. The Annual Financial Statement of Expenditure for 2026–27 and the Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025–26 are scheduled to be presented on February 6. These presentations will be followed by a general discussion on the Budget and the government’s response.
The provisional schedule also provides for detailed deliberations on Demands for Grants across several sittings in February, with holidays to be observed as notified.
In March 2026, the Assembly is expected to take up Appropriation Bills, other government business, as well as Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions.
The April phase of the session will continue with Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions along with government business. April 3 has been marked as a holiday on account of Good Friday.
The provisional calendar serves as a roadmap for the Assembly’s functioning over the next three months, indicating a packed session with important policy, financial, and legislative matters scheduled for discussion.
