JKCA SGM Declares Post-May 21 Decisions Invalid, Reaffirms Javid Kitab as President

Srinagar, June 27 (ANB): The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) on Friday said its Special General Meeting (SGM) has declared all orders, notifications and resolutions issued after May 21, 2026, by the Honorary Secretary as "null and void," while reaffirming Javid Ahmad Kitab as the constitutionally elected President of the Association. The meeting, chaired by President Javid Ahmad Kitab, was attended by affiliated club representatives and life members, who deliberated on various governance issues and passed a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening the Association's administrative and constitutional framework. According to the resolutions adopted during the meeting, the General Body declared all orders, notifications, show-cause notices, communications and resolutions issued from May 21, 2026 onwards—including those dated May 21, 22, 23, 30 and June 4, 11, 25 and 26—as "null and void, ab initio and non est in the eyes of law." The SGM also declared the "Resolution by Circulation" dated June 25, 2026, which sought to suspend the President, and the June 26 notification appointing an officiating President, as unconstitutional, illegal and beyond the powers provided under the JKCA Constitution. The General Body resolved that the affairs of the Association would continue under the leadership of President Javid Ahmad Kitab, in accordance with the directions of the Additional District Judge, Srinagar, in Civil Suit No. 3412/2026. To strengthen institutional oversight, the meeting approved the appointment of retired Justice Deepak Verma as JKCA Ombudsman and authorised the President to appoint an Ethics Officer. The General Body also resolved to introduce a transparent recruitment process for key administrative positions, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with appointments to be made through public advertisement and interviews based on merit. Members paid tribute to late cricket personalities Mr. Bhardwaj, Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Pawan Gupta and Mr. Vikram Rathore by observing a two-minute silence. Among other decisions, the SGM authorised the President, Treasurer and the Accountant General's representative to operate the Association's bank accounts as authorised signatories. It also approved the formation of a committee to draft a comprehensive Code of Conduct for players, members and office-bearers. The meeting further resolved that all JKCA-sponsored BCCI-qualified coaches would be required to serve the Association for a mandatory period of ten years. It also approved financial support for the Cricket Players' Association while reaffirming the constitutional role of the Indian Cricketers' Association (ICA) in nominating members to the JKCA Apex Council. The President was authorised to appoint a Private Secretary, determine monthly allowances, fix honorariums and conveyance allowances for office-bearers, and appoint legal counsel to represent the Association before courts and other legal forums. Regarding the life membership of Ajay Sharma, the General Body noted that he had played his cricket in Delhi and participated in the DDCA elections in 2024. The President was authorised to take an appropriate decision on the continuation or cancellation of his membership after verification of the relevant records. Addressing the meeting, President Javid Ahmad Kitab said leading an Association that recently won the Ranji Trophy was both an honour and a responsibility. He assured members that JKCA would intensify preparations for the upcoming domestic season and urged all stakeholders to function strictly in accordance with the JKCA Constitution and the directions of competent courts to ensure the continued development of cricket in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
