Kathua Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers in Separate NDPS Cases

Kathua, June 2: Intensifying its ongoing drive against drug trafficking, Kathua Police on Tuesday registered two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested two drug peddlers during a late-night operation. The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officers and led by SHO Kathua Ashish Sharma. According to police, the first case was registered as FIR No. 264/2026 under Section 27 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kathua against Sahil Sharma, son of Purshotam Lal and a resident of Ward No. 12, Kathua. In a separate action, police registered FIR No. 265/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act against Afrik Mohammad, son of Buta Din, a resident of Dhanore in Kathua district. During the operation, police recovered 7.24 grams of a heroin-like substance from his possession and seized a Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number JK08H-9873, allegedly used in the offence. Both accused have been taken into custody, while further investigation into the cases is underway. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua reiterated the district police's commitment to eradicating the drug menace and making Kathua a drug-free district. He warned that strict legal action would continue against individuals involved in narcotics trafficking and appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug-related activities.
