Ladakh Braves Extreme Weather to Extend Electricity Network to Remote and Strategic Areas
LEH, OCTOBER 31: Undeterred by heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures, electricity infrastructure development works are continuing across the challenging high-altitude terrain of Ladakh, with frontline workers making sustained efforts to extend reliable power connectivity to some of the Union Territory’s remotest and strategically significant areas, including Nubra and the Siachen region.
Braving harsh climatic conditions, electricity workers are undertaking field operations, climbing power poles and carrying out essential infrastructure works to strengthen the electricity network in areas where geographical constraints and extreme weather conditions pose significant operational challenges.
The initiative is being implemented by the Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD) in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, as part of sustained efforts to ensure improved and reliable electricity access in far-flung settlements.
The ongoing drive reflects the broader commitment to inclusive infrastructure development, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that the benefits of development reach even the remotest corners of the country.
Under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, and through the interventions of Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, focused measures are being undertaken to expedite critical infrastructure projects across the Union Territory.
Secretary, Power Development Department, Himanshu Gupta, is spearheading the initiative through coordinated departmental efforts and regular monitoring of ongoing projects to ensure their timely progress despite severe geographical and climatic challenges.
The determination of frontline workers, who continue electricity-related operations amid snowfall and freezing temperatures, highlights their commitment to strengthening essential infrastructure in some of the country's most demanding working environments.
From isolated mountain settlements to strategically important high-altitude frontiers, Ladakh's electrification drive is advancing with a focus on extending essential services to the last mile. The ongoing efforts underline a clear message: neither snow-covered mountains nor extreme weather conditions can deter Ladakh's resolve to take development and reliable electricity connectivity to its remotest frontiers.
