Jammu, 9 February 2026: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday inaugurated the J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament at the KK Hakku Hockey Stadium in Jammu and called for decisive action against terrorism through collective societal efforts.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor said the J&K Police had demonstrated unwavering resolve in the face of adversity and conveyed a strong message of resilience and determination to the nation. He urged security forces to intensify efforts to dismantle the terror network in collaboration with all sections of society.
The tournament, resuming after a gap of more than a decade, will feature 14 teams. Paying tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, the Lieutenant Governor said their sacrifices must remain alive in public memory and continue to inspire future generations. He described the martyrs as embodiments of duty and self-sacrifice, stressing the need to instil these values among the youth.
Highlighting the role of the J&K Police Civic Action Programme, the Lieutenant Governor said it reflected a broader commitment to strengthening trust between the police and the community, adding that lasting peace depends on cooperation and public participation.
He also reiterated the administration’s commitment to making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free and said the tournament symbolised that resolve. Emphasising youth development, he said the government and police were focused on creating opportunities, providing direction to young people and ensuring that talent receives the necessary support.
The event was attended by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Special DG (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani, Commandant General Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF Abdul Ghani Mir, ADGP Armed Police Anand Jain, senior police and civil administration officials, members of hockey associations and prominent sportspersons.
