LG Lays Foundation Stone of Mata Lalleshwari Cultural and Heritage Centre in Jammu
JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 19: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the Mata Lalleshwari Cultural and Heritage Centre at Mata Bhaderkali Asthapan, Thalwal, Jammu, describing the project as an important initiative for preserving Jammu Kashmir’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
The centre, sanctioned under the Capex budget at an estimated cost of Rs 4.5 crore, is envisaged as a dedicated platform for preserving and promoting the legacy and teachings of Yogini Lalleshwari.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said Jammu Kashmir has historically been a land of sages, saints and seekers of truth, and the proposed centre would reflect the region’s rich civilisational heritage while promoting cultural harmony, spiritual tourism and academic research.
“Today, we stand at a significant juncture in our history, where the blessings of our ancestors and their timeless wisdom are converging with the aspirations for a confident, developed and self-reliant Jammu Kashmir,” Sinha said.
He said Mata Lalleshwari’s teachings transcended social divisions and emphasised tolerance, equality and inner transformation. Her verses, he added, continue to inspire generations and reflect profound spiritual thought.
The Lieutenant Governor said the centre would serve as a “living repository” of Mata Lalleshwari’s philosophy, providing opportunities for scholars, artists and spiritual seekers to study and disseminate her teachings through contemporary platforms.
He said the centre would also facilitate exhibitions, translation initiatives and archival activities, besides supporting research and fellowships related to Kashmir Shaivism.
“The Centre will empower youth through art and creative expression, promote social harmony, and strengthen national integration,” the Lieutenant Governor said, adding that it would serve as a symbol of India’s cultural heritage and a source of social strength.
Emphasising the importance of preserving cultural memory alongside economic development, Sinha said societies must remain connected with their historical and philosophical roots.
He observed that in an increasingly fast-paced life, people face challenges including stress, identity concerns and loneliness, and said the teachings of saints such as Mata Lalleshwari could provide spiritual resources for self-discipline, inner peace and emotional resilience.
The Lieutenant Governor further said the centre would contribute to spiritual tourism and economic activity by attracting scholars, historians, pilgrims and visitors from different parts of India and abroad.
He said the initiative was in line with the broader vision of integrating heritage preservation with development and strengthening Jammu Kashmir’s cultural identity.
Senior officials and representatives of the Mata Bhaderkali Asthapan Trust, including Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, IGP Jammu Tejinder Singh, DIG JSK Range Shridhar Patil, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Dr Rakesh Minhas, Director Archives, Archaeology and Museums K.K. Sidha, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Arvind Karwani, President Mata Bhaderkali Asthapan Trust Dileep Pandita, General Secretary Ashok Kaw and Organizing Secretary Chand Ji Pandita, besides other members of the Trust, senior officers, prominent citizens and devotees, attended the foundation stone laying ceremony.
