Srinagar, May 19: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Tuesday honoured J&K Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi and four other distinguished women personalities with the prestigious Lal Ded Awards during a grand function organised by Sarhad at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre.The award ceremony, organised by the nationally reputed organisation Sarhad, recognised the outstanding contributions of prominent women achievers from Kashmir in various fields. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over the function and felicitated the awardees for their exemplary service and dedication towards society.Dr Darakhshan Andrabi was honoured for her significant role in reviving the Sufi-Rishi cultural circuit of Jammu and Kashmir and for her sustained efforts in promoting communal harmony and bridging social divides across the Union Territory over the past two decades.Speaking on the occasion, Sarhad National Chairman Sanjay Nahar said that Dr Andrabi’s contribution to social life, literature and intellectual discourse deserves wide recognition and celebration.Expressing gratitude after receiving the honour, Dr Andrabi thanked Sarhad for celebrating women empowerment and instituting national awards in the name of revered Kashmiri saint-poet Lal Ded, whom she described as a spiritual mother figure revered across communities.
