LG Sinha Reviews J&K Security Scenario, Calls for Intensified Counter-Terror Operations and Vigilance

Srinagar, September 1, 2026 (ANB): Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the overall security situation and strategic preparedness across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, directing security agencies and civil administration to maintain sustained pressure on terror networks and strengthen ground-level coordination. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Atal Dulloo, DGP Shri Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Department Shri Chandraker Bharti, Special DG Coordination PHQ Shri S.J.M. Gillani, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, ADGP CID Shri M.K. Sinha, IGP Kashmir Shri Sujit Kumar, IGP Jammu Shri Tejinder Singh, IGP Crime Branch Ms Sarah Rizvi, Divisional Commissioners, DIGs and other senior officers. Reviewing the security apparatus and operational preparedness, the Lieutenant Governor called for a robust counter-terrorism strategy, intensified area domination operations and enhanced coordination among all security and law-enforcement agencies to effectively counter emerging threats. The Lieutenant Governor also stressed the importance of maintaining public confidence in the security and policing system. He directed police officials to strengthen direct engagement with citizens and designate specific hours for public interaction and grievance redressal. Reviewing police station-level functioning, Shri Sinha emphasised the need for transparent, impartial and sensitive handling of complaints and directed officers to ensure that investigations are conducted with professionalism and fairness. “The police must maintain a strong and continuous engagement with the public. Every genuine grievance must be addressed with sensitivity and every investigation must be conducted with absolute fairness, transparency and impartiality,” the Lieutenant Governor said. The Lieutenant Governor commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies for their sustained action against drug trafficking and directed officials to intensify operations against narco-terror networks. He also called for stronger monitoring of emerging digital threats, particularly in the cyber and social media space. Officials were directed to closely monitor online platforms to counter anti-national propaganda, misinformation and instances of online blackmailing. During the meeting, the DGP and Principal Secretary Home briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. IGPs, DIGs and Divisional Commissioners provided updates on the security scenario in their respective jurisdictions, including counter-terrorism operations, law and order, drug trafficking and other emerging challenges. The meeting also reviewed a range of other critical security and administrative issues. The Lieutenant Governor directed all officers to maintain heightened operational vigilance, ensure seamless inter-agency coordination and adopt a proactive approach to safeguarding peace and maintaining law and order across the Union Territory.
