Srinagar, November 2, 2025:
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, today felicitated the winners of the Kashmir Marathon 2025 at a ceremony held in Srinagar.
The Full and Half Marathon, covering 42 km and 21 km respectively, was organized by the J&K Tourism Department and witnessed participation from 1,100 runners representing 27 States, Union Territories, and 11 foreign countries, making it a truly international sporting event in the Union Territory.
Addressing the participants, marathon enthusiasts, and officials, the Lieutenant Governor lauded the spirit of the runners, describing their enthusiasm as a reflection of the Marathon’s unifying power and its role in fostering brotherhood through shared experiences.
> “Within just two years of its inception, the Kashmir Marathon has emerged as one of the country’s most prestigious running events. It has instilled pride, passion, and motivation among people, inspiring a new generation of runners. I am confident that the event will continue to grow, attracting greater participation and becoming a major catalyst for the tourism economy,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Highlighting the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir since 2019, the Lieutenant Governor said that the positive changes in the Union Territory have been made possible under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
> “Jammu and Kashmir is the crown jewel of India—renowned for its natural beauty, rich heritage, and timeless ideals of humanism, communal harmony, and peace. I express my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji for steering the historical transformation of this land, where modernity and spirituality coexist in harmony. Today, J&K is moving forward with renewed determination and passion,” he remarked.
The Lieutenant Governor urged the people of J&K to leverage the opportunities presented by the Kashmir Marathon to showcase the Union Territory’s immense potential to the world.
> “Let us use this international platform to highlight our priceless cultural heritage, arts, crafts, and traditions. The Kashmir Marathon should become a symbol of our progress and achievements—a global showcase for our handicrafts, handloom, and tourism sector,” he said.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo; Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) Dr. Ashish Chandra Verma; Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg; DIG Central Kashmir Range Rajiv Pandey; SSP Srinagar Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy; Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, and other senior officers from the civil and police administration.
Film actor Suniel Shetty, along with prominent citizens, sportspersons, and a large gathering of youth, also graced the occasion.
