Jammu, August 3: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today unveiled the teaser and brochure of the much-anticipated Basohli Utsav-2025 at Raj Bhawan, marking the countdown to a grand celebration of the region’s cultural and artistic richness.
Congratulating the organisers, LG Sinha extended his best wishes to the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Vishwasthali organisation, and the district administration for their collaborative efforts in showcasing the unique creative legacy of Basohli.
Scheduled to be held from 28 September to 2 October 2025, the third edition of the festival will revolve around the theme of the Ramayana, featuring a rich array of cultural programs, exhibitions, and competitions. The five-day event will include Ramayana-themed exhibitions and publications, folk art displays, national-level folk dance and singing contests, traditional sports competitions, and other engaging activities aimed at celebrating and preserving the region's heritage.
Special emphasis will be placed on honouring local folk artists, artisans, and writers, acknowledging their role in keeping Basohli’s traditions alive.
“Basohli holds a unique place in India’s cultural and artistic landscape. IGNCA is making sincere efforts to bring its distinctive legacy to national attention,” the Lieutenant Governor remarked.
He further highlighted the significance of Basohli painting, which earned a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2023, calling it a “most extraordinary representation of the region’s artistic tradition.” LG Sinha expressed hope that people from across the country would be inspired to visit and participate in Basohli Utsav.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Shri Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Shri Shakti Kumar Pathak, Director ACB J&K; Ms Shruti Awasthi, Regional Director IGNCA, along with other dignitaries, officials, and members of IGNCA and Vishwasthali organisation.
