Police arrest 03 drug peddlers from north kashmir, contraband substances recovered Police solves theft case in Shopian; Accused arrested


Srinagar, June 2, ANB: Police in its relentless efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Kupwara, Sopore & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

According to News Service, Associated News Bureau, ANB, Police team of Police Post Drugmulla at a checkpoint established at Drugmulla Market intercepted a suspicious person identified as Shahrukh Shafi Mir son of Mohammad Shafi Mir resident of Kupwara. During search, substantial quantity of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession. Subsequently, he has been arrested.

Meanwhile in Sopore, a police team arrested a drug peddler at a checkpoint established at Chinar Crossing, Warpora. He has been identified as Ghulam Hassan Dar son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar resident of Mohalla Teliyan Arampora, Sopore. During search, charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.

In Kulgam, a Police team from Police Post Mirbazar while patrolling at Furrah near Railway Track intercepted a suspicious person identified as Farooq Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir resident of Zadoora. During search, Poppy Straw like substance weighing 1.19 Kg was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law has been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated. Efforts are being made to trace the source of the contraband and any possible links to a broader narcotics network operating in these areas.

Meanwhile , Police in Shopian have solved a theft case within 12 hours by arresting the accused involved in the crime and recovered the stolen property.

Police Post Keegam received a complaint from Irshad Ahmad, a resident of Children Keegam, stating there in that during the night of 1st June 2025, an unknown individual had broken into his house and stole ₹40,000 in cash along with some jewellery.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 121/2025 was registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant sections of the law, and an investigation was initiated.

During the course of investigation, a police team led by In-Charge Police Post Keegam, under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Shopian, identified and apprehended the accused and recovered the stolen items. The accused has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Malik son of Ab Rashid Malik resident of Tharian Keller. He is a notorious and habitual thief involved in several previous FIRs. ANB
