SMC Commissioner Reviews Muharram Preparations, Orders Timely Completion of Civic Arrangements Across Srinagar
Srinagar, June 11: Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, IAS, on Thursday conducted an extensive inspection of major Imambaras, shrines and congregation points across Srinagar city to review civic preparedness and arrangements for the forthcoming observance of Muharram-ul-Haram 2026.
The visit was aimed at assessing the status of arrangements being undertaken by various wings of the Corporation and evaluating on-ground readiness at key religious sites expected to witness large gatherings during the holy month.
Accompanied by senior SMC officials, including Joint Commissioners, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, the Chief Sanitation Officer, Transport Officer, Zonal Sanitation Officers and concerned Ward Officers, the Commissioner inspected several prominent locations, including Ayatullah Syed Yousuf Imam Bara in Bemina, Kadimi Imam Bara in Zadibal, Astaan Aalia Mir Shams-ud-Din Iraqi Shrine, Imam Bara Baghwanpora and Imam Bara Hassanabad, among other sites.
During the inspection, the Commissioner directed concerned officers to ensure the timely completion of sanitation drives, drainage clearance, road repair works, desilting of drains, maintenance of street lighting, uninterrupted water supply and adequate deployment of manpower and machinery at all identified locations.
He emphasized that all essential civic amenities should be put in place well before the commencement of Muharram observances and instructed field officers to maintain continuous monitoring of the arrangements. He further directed that any shortcomings be addressed promptly through coordinated efforts among all concerned departments.
Special attention was given to sanitation management, waste disposal systems, emergency response preparedness and the improvement of public infrastructure around major religious congregation sites. The Commissioner also instructed officers to remain available on the ground and ensure swift redressal of public grievances.
Reaffirming the Corporation’s commitment to public service, Faz Lul Haseeb said that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation is fully prepared to provide a clean, safe and well-managed environment for Muharram-ul-Haram and is taking all necessary measures to facilitate devotees and ensure the smooth conduct of religious activities. :::
