Srinagar Geology and Mining Department Seizes 16 Vehicles in Crackdown on Illegal Mining
Srinagar, October 27: The Department of Geology and Mining, Srinagar, has seized 16 vehicles involved in the alleged illegal transportation of minerals during a crackdown conducted across different parts of the district on October 25 and 26.
The enforcement drive was carried out in coordination with Srinagar Police. According to the department, the seized vehicles were transporting sand, crushed bajri, boulders and masonry stone without valid electronic challans or mineral transit permits.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the violators under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, and other relevant rules, including SRO-105, the department said.
District Mineral Officer (DMO) Srinagar Mohsin Noor said strict surveillance would continue, including during night hours, to curb illegal mining and the unauthorised transportation of minerals. He warned that those found violating the law would face strict action in accordance with the applicable legal provisions.
The department has also urged members of the public and contractors to procure minor minerals only from authorised mineral blocks and stone crushers, ensuring that all consignments are accompanied by valid electronic challans.
The department said the enforcement measures were aimed at curbing illegal mineral transportation and ensuring compliance with the prescribed regulations. ANB
