Srinagar, February 5: Srinagar Police on Thursday arrested three alleged drug peddlers belonging to the same family and recovered a substantial quantity of heroin during an operation in the jurisdiction of Police Station Khanyar.
According to police, acting on specific information, a team from Police Station Khanyar intercepted a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK01 AW 8898. During the search of the vehicle, a sizeable quantity of heroin, a banned narcotic substance valued at several lakhs of rupees, was recovered. The vehicle used for transporting the contraband was also seized.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rehman Mir; Muskan Gulzar Mir, daughter of Gulzar Ahmad Mir; and Ubaid Gulzar, son of Gulzar Ahmad Mir. All three are residents of Baghi Roop Singh, Miskeen Bagh, Khanyar.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused were allegedly involved in the supply of narcotic drugs in Srinagar and had generated significant illegal proceeds through drug trafficking. Police said the seized vehicle was reportedly purchased using money earned from the illicit trade.
In this connection, FIR No. 08/2026 under Sections 8, 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Khanyar. Further investigation is underway to trace both forward and backward linkages of the drug network, while a detailed financial probe has been initiated to identify and attach properties acquired from the proceeds of crime.
Police have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and have appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to narcotics and drug abuse.
