New Delhi, January 22, 2026:Leader of the Opposition, Sunil Sharma, on Thursday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and held wide-ranging discussions on the forthcoming Assembly session, the prevailing political situation, the security landscape, and key developmental priorities of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, Sharma briefed the Home Minister on the ground-level political dynamics in the Union Territory and shared public expectations from the upcoming Assembly session. He underscored the importance of constructive and meaningful deliberations to strengthen democratic processes, improve governance, and advance people-centric policies.
The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir also figured prominently in the discussions. Emphasis was laid on maintaining peace, countering terrorism, ensuring civilian safety, and sustaining the morale and effectiveness of security forces. Sharma appreciated the consistent efforts of the Ministry of Home Affairs and security agencies, noting significant improvements in the overall security environment and restoration of normalcy in the region.
Developmental issues formed another key component of the interaction. Sharma highlighted the need to accelerate infrastructure projects, generate employment, empower youth, revive tourism, and strengthen healthcare and education sectors. He also stressed timely implementation of central welfare schemes and called for balanced and inclusive development across both Jammu and Kashmir regions, with special focus on border, remote, and underserved areas.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and reaffirmed the Government of India’s firm commitment to peace, security, and inclusive development in Jammu and Kashmir. He assured that the concerns highlighted would be examined and appropriate measures taken to further strengthen governance, security, and development in the Union Territory.
The meeting reiterated the BJP leadership’s resolve to work in close coordination with the Central Government to ensure a stable, secure, and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir in line with the aspirations of its people.
