Jammu, December 30, 2025: ANB : the 82nd anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s historic hoisting of the Tricolour on Indian soil in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was commemorated on Tuesday with a ceremonial flag hoisting and inauguration of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Flag Point at JDA Park, Ram Vihar, Jammu.
The Lieutenant Governor hoisted the national flag and inaugurated the landmark to honour Netaji’s decisive act of declaring Port Blair free from British rule on December 30, 1943, an event that inspired the nation’s resolve for independence. The initiative seeks to highlight Netaji’s enduring contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
Paying tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the Lieutenant Governor said the slogan “Jai Hind,” given by Netaji, remains a symbol of national valour that once united the Azad Hind Fauj and continues to inspire millions of Indians. He described Netaji’s patriotism as unparalleled and said his life conveyed a clear message that unity is the foundation of a strong and prosperous nation.
The Lieutenant Governor noted that Netaji believed a society divided by differences could not build a lasting future. He highlighted Netaji’s vision of Swaraj, his emphasis on youth and women empowerment, his economic thinking, and his focus on industrialisation and small-scale industries, stating that these ideas laid the groundwork for a self-reliant India.
He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for ensuring that Netaji’s legacy receives due recognition in national history. Referring to Jammu as a symbol of India’s unity and cultural continuity, the Lieutenant Governor said the people of the region have preserved the spirit of national integration across generations.
“Our unity is our strength and is crucial for success. We must remain united and protect our shared heritage and values,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor appreciated the coordinated efforts of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, Jammu Development Authority, Housing and Urban Development Department, and the District Administration in commemorating Netaji’s legacy. He also called for observing December 30 every year as a regular commemorative event.
On the occasion, he visited a photo gallery depicting the life and legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and a documentary highlighting Netaji’s leadership and role in India’s independence was screened.
Members of the Legislative Assembly, senior civil and police officials, Padma Shri awardees, prominent citizens, and people from various walks of life attended the national flag hoisting ceremony. ANB
