Cabinet Approves Continuation of Atal Pension Yojana Till 2030-31

New Delhi, January 21, 2026:ANB: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) up to the financial year 2030-31, along with the extension of government funding support for promotional, developmental and gap funding activities.
As per the decision, the Centre will continue financial assistance for awareness generation, capacity building and other outreach initiatives to expand the scheme’s coverage among workers in the unorganised sector. The Cabinet also approved gap funding to address viability requirements and ensure the long-term sustainability of the pension scheme.
The move is aimed at strengthening old-age income security for millions of low-income and unorganised sector workers, enhancing financial inclusion and supporting India’s transition towards a pensioned society. The continuation of APY is aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, focusing on inclusive and sustainable social security.
The Atal Pension Yojana was launched on May 9, 2015, to provide assured pension benefits to workers in the unorganised sector. Under the scheme, subscribers are entitled to a guaranteed minimum monthly pension ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000, starting at the age of 60, depending on their contribution.
As of January 19, 2026, over 8.66 crore subscribers have been enrolled under APY, making it a key component of India’s social security framework. The government said continued support is necessary to sustain awareness efforts, strengthen institutional capacity and bridge financial gaps to ensure the scheme’s viability in the long term. ANB
