Cabinet Expansion Cannot Mask NC Government’s Failures, Corruption Allegations and Internal Discord: BJP
Jammu, October 27: Senior BJP leader and Ramnagar MLA R.S. Pathania on Tuesday questioned the credibility, accountability and functioning of the National Conference-led government in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the long-delayed Cabinet expansion cannot shield the government from scrutiny over unfulfilled electoral promises, allegations of corruption and reported internal discord.
The BJP leader maintained that the government must answer questions regarding the commitments made to the people before the Assembly elections, allegations of corruption involving ministers, and concerns reportedly raised by legislators during a meeting at Dachigam. He said that despite Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s reported assurance to address the issues, the public was entitled to know what concrete steps had been taken to resolve them.
Pathania also questioned the reported public reprimand of legislators over alleged lobbying for ministerial positions, arguing that such developments raised concerns about the functioning and accessibility of the ruling establishment. He maintained that elected representatives had a legitimate right to convey public grievances, raise political concerns and seek an audience with the Chief Minister.
“Is the government more concerned about managing ministerial positions than addressing the expectations of the people? Can a Cabinet reshuffle substitute for delivery, transparency and accountability? And when serious allegations emerge from within the ruling establishment itself, who will ensure that they are impartially examined?” the BJP asked.
The party asserted that the Cabinet expansion must not become an exercise in distributing ministerial positions merely to contain internal dissent while substantive public concerns remain unresolved. It stressed that allegations of corruption should be investigated impartially and accountability fixed wherever wrongdoing is established.
Emphasising the need for effective governance, the BJP said Jammu and Kashmir required tangible results rather than political manoeuvring, accountability instead of assurances, and fulfilment of electoral commitments rather than repeated administrative and political reshuffles.
“The real test of the Cabinet expansion is not how many ministerial berths are filled, but whether the government can restore public confidence through measurable performance, transparent administration and delivery on its promises,” the party maintained. ANB
