Budgam, December 22: Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, on Monday visited Pandit Colony at Sheikhpora in Budgam district to review the status of development works and address issues raised by the local community.
During the visit, members of the Pandit Colony Sheikhpora highlighted concerns related to essential civic services. The Deputy Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by the residents and representatives of the Sheikhpora Transit-Camp Welfare Committee.
The concerns included repair and replacement of damaged trench manholes and covers, enhancement of street lighting through new low-tension electric lines, construction of a proper drainage system to mitigate waterlogging, repair and resurfacing of internal roads, landscaping and beautification of the colony, and installation of covered metal dustbins to improve sanitation.
The Deputy Commissioner redressed some of the grievances on the spot and assured the residents that all genuine issues would be taken up on priority for early resolution.
Later, the DC inspected the ongoing construction work of the Multipurpose Community Hall at Pandit Colony, Sheikhpora. The project, being executed at a sanctioned cost of ₹63.11 lakh, involves the construction of an RCC-framed double-storey building comprising two halls and two washrooms. About 80 per cent of the work has been completed, and the project is scheduled for completion by March 2026.
Dr. Bhat directed the concerned engineers and executing agencies to ensure quality workmanship, strict adherence to construction norms and timely completion of the project. He said the facility would serve as an important social and community infrastructure for PM Package employees and their families residing in the transit accommodation.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the Chief Planning Officer Budgam, Chief Medical Officer, Executive Engineer PDD Budgam, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Budgam, AEE R&B Budgam and other senior officers.
