SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 18:
A meeting of the District Level Committee of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was today held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex to review ongoing anti-drug measures and chalk out future strategies to curb drug abuse and trafficking.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Chakravarthy, also attended the meeting.
At the outset, the DC was briefed about the key initiatives taken in the district to curb the drug menace, including recent seizures, arrests, financial investigations, and detentions made under the NDPS Act. The meeting also reviewed progress on ensuring proper rehabilitation of drug-affected individuals.
Officials informed the chair about measures implemented to ensure accurate revenue entries in NDPS cases, safeguard property records, and enforce the complete adoption of computerized billing systems at pharmaceutical outlets across Srinagar.
Emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach, the DC called for sustained public awareness and sensitization drives, strengthening of Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs), improved interdepartmental coordination, and intensified surveillance at vulnerable hotspots.
He also directed for strict action against the illegal cultivation of contraband crops such as cannabis and poppy and urged for greater community participation in the ongoing fight against drug abuse.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Aadil Fareed, Superintendent of Police Umar Shah, SDM East, SDM West, Chief Education Officer, District Statistics & Evaluation Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Assistant Labour Commissioner, and officers from the Excise, Drug Control, Youth Services & Sports departments, besides heads of ATFs at SMHS and SKIMS Bemina, among others.
