DLSA Budgam Reviews Undertrial Cases During Central Jail Srinagar Visit Ahead of UTRC Meeting

Budgam, July 6: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budgam, under the aegis of the J&K Legal Services Authority, Srinagar, conducted an extensive visit to Central Jail Srinagar as part of its scheduled calendar of activities. The visit was undertaken in preparation for the Third Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting, scheduled to be held later this month. A team led by the Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC), Budgam, interacted with undertrial prisoners and identified eligible cases for consideration during the forthcoming UTRC meeting. Officials said the list of identified undertrial prisoners will be circulated among all members of the UTRC ahead of the meeting. During the committee's deliberations, eligible undertrial prisoners may be recommended for release, subject to the consent of the committee members and in accordance with the applicable legal provisions. The DLSA Budgam reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the legal rights of undertrial prisoners and extending necessary legal assistance to them and their families in line with the NALSA SPURHA Scheme.
