Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has congratulated the Indian Railways on the arrival of the first-ever foodgrain freight train in the Kashmir Valley, carrying approximately 1,384 tonnes of rice.
Describing the occasion as historic and memorable, the Lieutenant Governor said the milestone fulfils a long-cherished dream of connecting the Kashmir region with the national freight network. He observed that the regular movement of freight trains will significantly benefit the people, businesses, and infrastructure projects of Jammu and Kashmir by ensuring all-weather connectivity and reducing dependence on road transport.
The Lieutenant Governor noted that rail-based freight movement will also ease pressure on National Highway-44, particularly during adverse weather conditions, thereby strengthening supply chains and improving economic efficiency.
Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw for making the economic progress of Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of Bharat’s rapid growth trajectory.
