IGP Kashmir Reviews Valley Security, Orders Enhanced Vigilance Ahead of Upcoming Events

Srinagar, Aug 3: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Shri V.K. Birdi, IPS, on Monday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kashmir, to assess the prevailing security scenario and review preparedness for forthcoming events across the Valley. The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies, Army and other security establishments, including representatives of the BSF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP, RPF, CID, Security Wing, Traffic Police and 15 Corps. During the meeting, officers briefed the IGP on the prevailing security situation in their respective jurisdictions. A comprehensive review of recent security developments, emerging challenges and the measures being implemented to address them was carried out. Emphasising the need for sustained preparedness, IGP V.K. Birdi directed officers to regularly review and strengthen existing security arrangements while adopting robust counter-insurgency strategies. He stressed the importance of seamless coordination among all security agencies to maintain an effective and proactive security grid across the Valley. The IGP also reviewed security arrangements for National Highways, railway tracks and railway stations, directing officers to enhance deployments, establish dynamic checkpoints and intensify foot patrols, particularly during night hours, at vulnerable locations and inter-district boundaries. Highlighting the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure and vulnerable areas, Birdi instructed officers to strengthen preventive measures, intensify area domination exercises and maintain close surveillance in sensitive locations to foil any attempts aimed at disturbing public peace or targeting civilians. He further directed district police chiefs to maintain strict vigilance against anti-national and anti-social elements, enhance intelligence-led operations and closely monitor social media platforms to curb the spread of misinformation, rumours and malicious content that could undermine public order and communal harmony. The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to maintain heightened vigilance, strengthen inter-agency coordination and ensure effective implementation of security measures to preserve peace, stability and public safety across Kashmir.
